Sometimes Growth Feels Heavy
If you've been feeling exhausted lately, I want to tell you something.
You're not the only one.
Lately I've been carrying a kind of exhaustion that goes beyond needing a nap. It's physical. Mental. Emotional. The kind that makes getting out of bed feel like an accomplishment.
The interesting part is that, from the outside, my life probably looks pretty great. I've been traveling. Spending time in nature. Going to concerts. Teaching Human Design. Working with incredible clients. Saying yes to opportunities that once would've terrified me.
Those things are all true.
It's also true that there have been moments when I've cried before showing up for people because I wasn't sure I had anything left to give.
Both things can exist at the same time.
One thing I've learned over the last few years is that healing doesn't mean you never have hard days. It means you learn how to move through them differently.
Yesterday, I still showed up for my client. I still taught my class. And somewhere in the middle of the day, my friend Tamara was able to squeeze me in for a healing session that reminded me what receiving support feels like.
But when I woke up this morning, the heaviness was still there. Part of me was perfectly content to pull the blankets back over my head, cry a little more, and let the day pass me by.
But something inside me whispered, Go to the river. I didn’t want to leave the house - and I resisted it all morning, but by the afternoon, that whisper was still there.
If you know anything about Human Design, my ideal environment is Shores. Water has always been where I come home to myself. So I listened.
I grabbed a blanket, my journal, an oracle deck—because you never know what you're going to need—a bottle of water, and some calming tea that my sweet friend Danyal had given me.
Truth is - I’ve never really gone to the river before, not like this anyway so I didn’t really know where to go. I explored a little bit, then found a little trail that led down to the riverbed. What I found was a beautiful quiet spot. The river was unusually low. and it felt like it had made space for me. I found a little spot right in the riverbed, surrounded by smooth rocks with the water gently flowing beside me.
I journaled. I wrote a letter that had been weighing on my heart for far too long.
I listened to the birds. I laughed after nearly jumping out of my skin when a few deer startled me when they barreled into the water.
I pulled a few oracle cards. Of course, the message they had for me hit home.
Then I laid back on those warm river rocks, closed my eyes and listened to the current, feeling the breeze wash over me. It felt like it was carrying away some of the fear, the doubt, and the darkness I'd been holding onto.
When I opened my eyes, an eagle was soaring directly overhead.
It wasn't some dramatic, life-changing movie moment. It was quieter than that. It was simply the moment I realized I could breathe again.
The heaviness hadn't magically disappeared. My circumstances hadn't changed. But something inside me had.
I felt lighter. More grounded. More like myself.
Sometimes our soul knows exactly what we need before our mind catches up.
I'm so grateful I listened.
What surprised me most, though, wasn't my own experience.
It was yours. Your reaction to my vulnerable social media post this morning what so kind.
The messages. The comments.
The people checking in just to say, "I've been feeling off too."
I've lost count of how many conversations I've had recently where someone has admitted they're carrying a heaviness they can't quite explain.
If you're someone who follows astrology or pays attention to collective energy, you've probably noticed people talking about a season of emotional release, reflection, and transformation. Whether that's something you resonate with or not, I think we can all agree that life has a way of asking us to let go of who we've been so we can become who we're meant to be.
And that process is rarely comfortable.
Growth isn't always exciting.
Sometimes it's lonely.
Sometimes it's confusing.
Sometimes it asks us to rest when we'd rather keep pushing.
Sometimes it asks us to receive support instead of always being the one giving it.
I've spent a lot of time teaching people to understand themselves through Human Design, shadow work, and self-discovery. What I've learned is that awareness doesn't eliminate hard seasons.
It simply gives us more compassion while we're living through them.
So if today feels heavier than usual...
Please don't assume you're doing something wrong.
Maybe your soul is asking you to slow down. Maybe it's asking you to reach out.
Maybe it's asking you to find your own version of the river.
Reach out to someone.
Let someone love you.
Rest without guilt.
Listen to the quiet whisper.
Remember that seasons change.
And don't let the hard days convince you they'll last forever.
Sometimes the bravest thing we do isn't climbing the mountain.
Sometimes it's simply getting out of bed, trusting the next small step, and believing tomorrow might feel a little lighter.
